| Something For The Parents I wrote this poem at age 16 when I was in the 10th grade for my chemistry teacher, whom I had an innocent, schoolboy crush on. I anonymously placed it on her desk on her last day of teaching before she left on maternity leave. To this day she is unaware of the author. Printed copies of this poem are available with your delivery upon request for $5 each. 'He', 'she', and 'they' versions are available. The paper has pastel, baby footprints along the borders. YOUR BABY One of the greatest moments on this good Earth Is the miracle of your baby’s birth. And though the pain may hide your smile, The beauty of your child makes it all worthwhile. Care for him, for he needs to know That Mommy is there. Never ending love will flow. Fill your child’s mind with pleasant dreams. Pave his course with golden gleams. Reveal to your newborn the freedoms of life And the happiness he has brought to husband and wife. Allow him to grow in his own special way. Smile at his bedside when he kneels down to pray. For he is the symbol of things to come. He will contain ideas unknown to some. A gentle kiss will let him see That you love him dearly. There’s no reason to flee. But when the time comes for the strings to untie, Don’t be alarmed. This is not a good-bye. And as you pass on to a place high above He will forever possess his natural love For the ones he knows who brought him into this land, And through every crisis held tight his hand. So thank the Lord for all that you’re worth For He has blessed you with the miracle of your baby’s birth. William T. Donovan |
